Almost every driver knows that telltale “pop” sound and the feeling of driving around on a rapidly deflating tire. Getting a flat is a pain, but changing one actually isn’t all that complex. These tips from the Dodge service center staff here at Griffin Chrysler Dodge Jeep® RAM can help.
Prepare for a Flat
Before you take a big road trip, make sure that you’re ready for a potential flat tire. Know where the tire iron, jack, and spare are. Check the tire pressure on your spare tire. Is it properly inflated?
Take proper care of the tires on your new Dodge car as well. Ensuring that they are always inflated to the right pressure and free from damage can make getting a flat less likely.
Changing Your Tire
Hopefully, you’ve now reduced your odds of encountering a flat tire, but if you still end up needing to use your spare here’s what you need to do:
- First, pull over somewhere safe
- Take out your spare tire, the jack, and the tire iron
- Loosen the wheel lugs before jacking up the car
- Jack up the car and completely remove the lugs
- Take off the flat tire
- Install the spare tire
- Lower the car
- Tighten up the wheel lugs
You should be all set! Just make sure that you make an appointment at our Dodge service center soon. You don’t want to drive around on a spare tire for too long. This tire is simply not built for it.
